Curriculum Provision

DSC_7282.jpg

In Lismore College we provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced, and relevant, giving pupils their full entitlement and more under the Northern Ireland Revised Curriculum offering each pupil the opportunity to develop their potential. The curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual and physical development of all our pupils. Our aim is to encourage pupils to set the highest aspirations and develop as independent thinkers and learners. The outcome is confident young people who experience both academic and personal success and demonstrate the attitudes, values and skills for life beyond school. Pupils have pathways through the curriculum that closely match their needs and a level of challenge ensures that pupils achieve the qualifications and exam results to reflect their potential.

In addition to the formal curriculum on offer at key stage 3, our students also take part in a number of programmes aimed at developing our students on a holistic level allowing for personal growth to take place alongside academic improvement.

Key Stage 4

(Years 11 & 12)

The Key Stage 4 curriculum is ever evolving based on the needs and interests of our students and new subjects being offered while always ensuring a broad and balanced set of options that complies with Entitlement Framework (EF) requirements.

Transition from KS3 into KS4 is another milestone in our students’ education. As in year 8, students take part in a structured induction programme and an information evening for students and their parents takes place early in the academic year providing the opportunity for key information to be shared. At Key Stage 4, careers and personal development programmes are explored on a weekly basis with their form tutor. A careers meeting is also organised with a careers adviser to give our students the best and most up-to-date information available.

Key Stage 5

(Years 13 & 14)

In addition to the formal curriculum on offer, our KS5 students also follow a time-tabled Careers programme ensuring that they are well-prepared for future opportunities. As in year 8 and year 11, students take part in a structured induction programme and an information evening for students and their parents takes place early in the academic year providing the opportunity for key information to be shared specific to their age and stage of education. Key stage 5 students have access to a dedicated, supervised study area with ICT facilities to allow them to effectively manage their workload. Key Stage 5 students will also have access to careers meetings, workshops and study skills programmes giving them the best possible opportunity to succeed and achieve their potential here in Lismore College!

Our KS5 students are an important part of our school community. All students must study a minimum of three AS/A2 subjects, or the equivalent.
